From an outstanding Sonoma County vintage, the luscious 94 pt. 2019 EnRoute Les Pommiers Russian River Pinot Noir boasts an opulent core of fresh, earthy fruit and a plush, mouth coating finish balanced by energetic acidity, delivering exceptional quality and value from the pioneering family behind Far Niente and Nickel & Nickel.
Known for their Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines, the Nickel family first released the EnRoute Les Pommiers Russian River Pinot in 2007, the culmination of a decades’ long search for vineyards to supply grapes for their Pinot Noir passion project. Quietly producing small quantities of vineyard-designated Pinot Noir since the 1980s, the Nickel team spent years traveling to Burgundy and along the West Coast assessing vineyards, eventually deciding on the Russian River Valley and purchasing an old apple orchard (Les Pommiers in French means “the apples”) to plant their first Pinot Noir vineyard in Sonoma County. Soon after acquiring a parcel in the Amber Ridge Vineyard in the north area of Russian River, then known as the source of quality fruit for Kosta Browne and Siduri, the Nickel team purchased and planted land at the lowest elevation in the Green Valley AVA, its Northern Spy Vineyard providing layered complexity and tingling acidity to achieve EnRoute’s signature balance and elegance. Now a blend of Pinot Noir from six diverse Russian River Vineyards including Amber Ridge and Northern Spy, winemaker Michael Accurso, formerly head winemaker for Duckhorn's Goldeneye Pinot, aged the full-bodied 2019 EnRoute Les Pommiers for 10 months in 30% new and 70% one-year French oak barrels, yielding enticing aromatics and luscious, dark concentrated fruit with seamless, silky tannins.
A culmination of over three decades of dedication to produce exceptional Pinot Noir, the 94 pt. 2019 EnRoute Les Pommiers Pinot Noir reflects the quality legacy of Nickel & Nickel, its range of terroirs blended as a single expression of the Russian River Valley creating “an impressive showcase of the appellation” according to the Wine Enthusiast’s Virginie Boone and an immensely appealing, vibrant Pinot Noir from an exceptional Sonoma vintage. |
