Entirely based on healthy grapes from the first-class parcels Kribslay and Hödlay, the 2019 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Spätlese opens with a picture-book bouquet of a Spätlese from this amazing terroir. Clear, intense, precise and flinty on the nose, offering perfectly ripe Riesling fruit with weathered slate as well as herbal aromas in a highly delicate and even floral way. Round and piquant on the well-concentrated, filigreed and finessed yet juicy palate, this is a gorgeously salty and piquant Spätlese with a highly stimulating finish and ripe apple aromas on the aftertaste. This is buoyant, frisky and highly elegant, possibly the finest Treppchen Spätlese I have tasted from Christian Hermann so far (from AP 7 20 in May 2020). Fermented entirely in stainless steel. Total production: 6,000 bottles. 9% alcohol.
