"While I’ve always loved the wines of Domaine de la Charbonnière, recent vintages are on another level, and I’d unquestionably put the Domaine up with the crème de la crème of the appellation today."
–Jeb Dunnuck

Founded by the Maret family in 1914, Domaine de la Charbonnière has seen a steady rise in quality over the last decade under the direction of fourth generation sisters Veronique and Caroline Maret, with Veronique following in her father Michel’s footsteps as winemaker since 2007. Crafting CDP that is “consistently fine and often outstanding” over the last decade according to Vinous critic Josh Raynolds, Domaine de la Charbonniere’s organically farmed La Crau vineyard boasts Grenache vines averaging 75 years with many individual vines over 100 years planted on clay sandy soils littered with the rounded stones known as galets roulés, the naturally low yielding old vines producing finessed, concentrated fruit. Hand harvesting with selective sorting while employing a purist’s approach in the cellar, winemaker Veronique vinified the Grenache and Mourvedre separately in open-top wooden fermenters to maintain freshness, then aged the 2019 Vieilles Vignes in a mixture of demi-muids and smaller barrels, a small percentage of which are new, yielding plush integrated tannins with a “rock star of a finish” according to critic Jeb Dunnuck.

Sourced from the estate’s oldest vines on the region’s famed Le Crau plateau, the outstanding 97 pt. 2019 Domaine de la Charbonniere Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes offers velvety garrigue-scented red and dark fruit with energetic spice and balanced, harmonious tannins, a “beautifully crafted” CDP according to critic James Suckling promising decades of longevity from an estate that continues to fly under the radar, over delivering quality at bargain pricing.

From an exceptional vintage described by Decanter as combining “elegance with power," the richly structured, elegant 97 pt. 2019 Domaine de la Charbonniere Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes offers top value from one of the region’s top Domaines, crafted from old vine fruit and guaranteeing fans of bold, traditionally styled Southern Rhone red CDP enjoyment for decades to come.

The 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Cuvée Les Hautes Brusquières (60/40 Grenache and Syrah) comes from a cooler terroir near the Mount Redon plateau and was brought up in oak tronconique tanks and demi-muids. Its dense purple, almost opaque hue is followed by a brilliant perfume of mulled red and black fruits, peppery herbs, crushed stone, violets, and licorice. With full-bodied richness, a layered, multi-dimensional texture, and just about perfect tannins, it's another superstar wine from this estate that's up with the finest vintages to date.
