Super spicy, this red also features macerated cherry, wild strawberry, sandalwood and rose aromas and flavors. Supple and balanced on a layer of dusty tannins, leaving a salty aftertaste. Offers terrific energy and length. Best from 2026 through 2043.

A red to crimson colour. There is plentiful strawberry fruit on the nose, becoming more pleasing with time in the glass. I very much like the texture of this wine with all the ingredients building together to make a very complex whole. A long finish, delicious harmony. Drink from 2027-2034.

The 2019 Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru is very backward on the nose and lactic in style, maybe picked a little later than its peers. But, it does seems to cohere in the glass and develop a pleasing florality. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, judiciously-applied oak, commendable depth of fruit and insistent grip on the fresh and pleasingly saline finish. There is a completeness to this Charmes-Chambertin that will stand it in good stead for long-term aging. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting.
