There are less than a handful of profound bottlers in Beaujolais; winemakers who routinely offer us wines which are solidly on par with anything you'd taste from the Côte d'Or. Folks who make wine for die-hard Beaujolais fanatics and who have such a stellar reputation that no matter which wine you opt for, you're drinking the best juice from that particular lieu dit. Daniel Bouland is one of them. Along with Lapierre and Foillard, nobody does it better in the village of Morgon. Serious about your serious Beaujolais? You're gonna want Bouland's wines.

Derived from older vines in rockier soils, the 2019 Morgon Bellevue Cailloux is even more sensuous and textural than its Sable counterpart. Mingling notions of raspberries and plums with hints of rose petals and spices, it's medium to full-bodied, velvety and enveloping, its powdery tannins almost entirely cloaked in succulent, perfumed fruit.
