Crafted by the same stellar team as its Super Second sibling Leoville-Barton, these long-lived Chateau Langoa Barton blends shine brightly on their own, the elegant 95 pt. 2018 Langoa Barton and 96 pt. 2019 Langoa Barton offering rich, dark fruit and powerful structure built for long term aging, garnering 90 plus pt. scores from critics across the board and both outstanding values delivered in perfect provenance to enjoy over the next decades.

Owned by the Barton’s since 1821, the third growth estate of Langoa Barton is centered around the elegant and imposing Chateau featured on Leoville-Barton’s label, one of only three estates that has remained in the hands of the same family since the time of its classification. Undergoing its modern transformation under 8th generation Anthony Barton and his daughter Lilian and now run by 10th generation Melanie and Damien Barton-Sartorius, Chateau Langoa Barton is situated south of Leoville-Barton in the center of Saint Julien, its vineyards divided into five main blocks with some bordering Leoville-Barton and Leoville-Poyferre and the remainder further south near Chateau Ducru-Beaucaillou. Spanning 20 hectares with vines averaging around 35 years of age, the sustainably farmed vineyards are planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller amounts of Merlot and Cabernet Franc in gravel and clay soils, located in the coolest part of Saint-Julien but protected by the moderating effects of the nearby Gironde. Crafted under the direction of legendary consulting enologist Eric Boissenot, the alluring 95 pt. 2018 Chateau Langoa Barton is described as “absolutely rock solid” by the Wine Spectator’s James Molesworth with “a lively backbone lifting the fruit to a good, long finish” according to the Wine Advocate’s Lisa Perrotti-Brown, its richly textured dark fruit hinting of minerality. Described as “a soft, seamless, beautifully textured Saint-Julien” by Jeb Dunnuck, the inviting 96 pt. 2019 Chateau Langoa Barton offers lush concentrated dark fruit over a framework of velvety tannins, “an especially succulent, richly textured Langoa” according to Antonio Galloni of Vinous and “a great example of the year.”

Describing these two outstanding vintages, Inside Bordeaux’s Jane Anson calls 2018 “a year that St-Julien showed its class” and 2019 “a truly great year for St Julien,” making these elegantly crafted selections from Chateau Langoa Barton both winning choices for Bordeaux fans and collectors seeking exceptional quality at an affordable price, punching well above their weight and promising an intriguing evolution for years to come.

Plenty of blackberry, currant and floral aromas. Some mint as well, following through to a full-bodied palate with layers of ultra-fine tannins and wonderful length. This is sophisticated and beautifully crafted with style and personality, displaying its terroir. Extremely well done. Drink after 2025.

A timely classic for patient readers with cold cellars, the 2019 Langoa Barton is performing beautifully in bottle, unwinding in the glass with a rich bouquet of cassis, plums, cigar wrapper, pencil shavings and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, deep and elegantly muscular, its concentrated core of fruit is framed by lively acids and ripe, powdery tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully firm finish. Forget it for a decade and reap the rewards for the following four.

A soft, seamless, beautifully textured Saint-Julien, especially in the vintage, the 2019 Château Langoa Barton gives up lots of red and black currant fruits as well as textbook damp earth, leafy herbs, chocolate, and spring flowers. It's complex, medium to full-bodied, has beautiful tannins, and no hard edges. Drink this beauty any time over the coming 20-25 years. The blend is 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, and the rest Cabernet Franc.

The powerful tannins give this wine structure. They go with the jammy black fruits and richness. Spice and a complex texture are promising in this fine, stylish wine. Drink from 2026.
