Founded over two centuries ago on the gravelly St. Estephe plateau, Laffitte Carcasset is centered around a magnificent 18th century country house known as a “Chartreuse” surrounded by meticulous vineyards, the estate completely refurbished by owner Pierre Rousseau since its purchase in 2016. Spanning 35 hectares with vines averaging 30 years of age, Laffitte Carcasset’s sustainably farmed vineyards along the Gironde estuary are planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon and about a third Merlot with a small amount of Cabernet Franc, the moderating influence of the river enhancing even ripening and protecting the vines from frost. Produced under the advisement of famed consultant Hubert De Bouard of Chateau Angelus, the richly structured 2019 Chateau Laffitte Carcasset was aged for 12 months in 40% new French oak yielding robust, ripe tannins and “a firm yet juicy finish” according to James Suckling, ready to enjoy now with excellent aging potential over the next decade or longer.
