Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2019 Spring Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon gives up warm cassis, black cherry compote, and cedar plus sauteed herbs, tobacco, and new leather. Medium to full-bodied, it has a firm, grainy, muscular, savory palate with an herbal lift on the finish.

More scorched earth, graphite, flowers, and both red and black fruits emerge from the 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain, which is 100% varietal from the Fern Rock Vineyard near the top of Spring Mountain. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with firm tannins yet beautiful fruit, give bottles 2-4 years and enjoy over the following 15+.

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Spring Mountain District is one of the more accessible wines in the range. Crushed flowers, mint, sweet red berry and blood orange all run through this bright, impeccably polished Cabernet. I liked the 2019 more from barrel, but then again, Spring Mountain Cabernets often shut down after bottling. It will be interesting to see where this ends up in a few years' time.

Blackcurrants, cassis, mocha, bark, dried earth and walnuts on the nose. Chocolate and coffee too. Full-bodied with firm, broad tannins. Intense yet vibrant and cool with pretty walnuts and dried flowers on the velvety and earthy finish. Charred oak there too. Try in 2024.
