Toasty wood aromas meet with lemon oil and concentrated honeysuckle on the nose of this affordable sister to Mount Eden. There is a firm grip to the palate, where those citrus and wood flavors converge alongside salted sunflower seeds and cashew.

The 2018 Chardonnay Estate from Domaine Eden spent 10 months in French oak, ranging from two to five years old. It shows the controlled poise of the vintage, opening with clean, lifted aromas of Meyer lemon curd, wet stones and almonds. The palate is balanced and straightforward, combining creamy richness with lively and linear acidity.

The 2018 Chardonnay is such a gorgeous wine. Apricot, tangerine oil, butter, spice and a touch of reduction give the 2018 a decidedly exotic flair, but then the Santa Cruz Mountains minerality kicks in to frame things beautifully. Rich, textured and vibrant in the glass, the 2018 is a terrific wine to drink now and over the next handful of years.
