A very rich Ripasso with herb-crusted tannins, all alpine-cool and suave, serving as a restraint. Pithy black cherry, camphor, sassafras and dried rose petals. The smooth, detailed tannins direct energetic length. All things considered, this is well done. Drink or hold.

The 2017 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is intense, wafting up with a rich blend of cherry sauce, cloves and cinnamon lifted by hints of fresh mint. This sweeps across the palate with ripe red berry fruits, complicated by a dusting of cocoa and brown spice. It finishes with tremendous length and a lasting concentration as suggestions of licorice and mocha slowly fade. This is a high-test Valpolicella.
