After spending the first years of his career working alongside his brother Gianni, Roberto Voerzio established his own winery in the late 1980’s, crafting richly concentrated Cru Barolo “as seamless and sexy as they come” according to Jeb Dunnuck from 14 hectares of organically farmed Cru vineyards primarily in La Morra along with a parcel in nearby Cerequio. Pioneering the technique of green harvesting in the region and implementing staggeringly small yields, Voerzio cuts off entire bunches and meticulously trims those remaining into a rounder shape, employing extensive selection in the vineyards on multiple passes during the growing season that allows him to pick the optimally ripe grapes earlier and minimizes intervention in the cellar. Extremely perfumed and beautiful, offering rose-petal and lavender aromas with some tar to the ripe cherries. Some spice, such as nutmeg, as well as light hazelnut. Fresh. Full-bodied, very tight and compact with firmness and wonderful length and focus. Consistent drive through the center of the wine. Better after 2025.
