From a classic vintage, the Brigaldara 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico offers elegance and power (with a hearty 16.5% alcohol content). The wine is redolent of dried fruit, baked cherry and plum, as well as sweet spice and tobacco. The density is not overblown, and indeed, the wine is full-bodied but not in an overwhelming sense like you might anticipate. The mouthfeel is smooth and velvety. The blend is 47% Corvina, 39% Corvinone, 6% Rondinella and 8% other complementary grapes. It ages in barrique for one year and in large oak casks for an additional two years.

Exotic spices, medicinal cherry and sweet herbs come together to form a dramatic and deeply alluring display on the 2016 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico. It’s silky and energetic, with a savory showing of mineral-tinged black fruits, cinnamon and cocoa. This hides its 16.5% abv perfectly, tapering off to peppery inner florals over a gentle tug of fine tannin. You can feel the 2016’s girth, yet it manages to carry that weight with ease. Very nice.
