Freemark Abbey's winemaker, Ted Edwards, is releasing some of the greatest wines ever bottled at this historic, 125+ year-old, iconic Napa stalwart. These are wines which impressively showcase true typicité, terroir notes shining through, electrifying the gorgeous levels of fruit. André Tchelistcheff demanded these aspects were necessary for producing world class Cabernet, and Freemark Abbey once again has that Midas touch, the balance in these wines is superb. Ted began his career as winemaker at Freemark Abbey in 1980. After discovering the amazing fruit coming off of from Sycamore Vineyard, a single bottling was launched with the 1984 vintage. This marks the 35th release of Sycamore and is the finest yet. Ted was kind enough to send me a bottle a few months ago prior to the release – I understand why. Sycamore is a 24 acre Rutherford vineyard nestled up against the Mayacamas Range, composed of rich clay loamy soils formed from alluvial flow that yields small berries with intensity. From a cooler, dry vintage like 2015, extraordinary wine can result. With forty years at Freemark Abbey, the roll of head winemaker will be assumed by Kristy Melton with the 2020 vintage. Most pleased to offer this wine, a tribute to Ted, Freemark Abbey, and Sycamore Vineyard. 2015 is the finest yet for each. |
