Attending the launch of a new wine project called Almaviva by the Baroness Philippine de Rothschild at SOBE's Delano Hotel In 1998 - it wasn't clear what a forces the wines of the Andes would bring to our wine world just two decades later. This collaboration of the Bordeaux Rothschilds and the Chilean winery Concha y Toro was most propitious, once again in Miami: James Suckling's 2017 Great Wines of the Andes Grand Tasting at The East made the point profoundly, the world stage - taken. Chile's 100 point Seña, poured by the gracious Director Eduardo Chadwick captivated the crowd. Chadwick collaborated with another great wine visionary - Robert Mondavi during the '90s. In the same decade, Pierre Lurton of Chateau Cheval Blanc discovered the Las Compuertas Vineyard in Argentina. This 80 year old Malbec vineyard became Cheval Blanc's footprint in the Andes: Cheval des Andes. Each a testament to the wines of the Andes, Stunning treasures await.

Complex aromas of blueberry, rose petal, licorice, and currant. Full body, ultra fine tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Balanced and very refined. A wonderful purity and beauty. Give it three to four years to come together but already a beauty. A blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon, 16% carmenere, 11% malbec, 8% merlot and 5% petit verdot.

97 points, James Suckling (May 2016)
