Gérard Constant and Denise Duquesnoy always dreamed of owning a winery; not just any winery, the finest of the appellation. Their research led them to Vinsobres, and an old property named Domaine les Aussellons, where the Benoit family first opened their doors in 1904. Vinsobres has a unique terroir; vineyards planted to hillside parcels climbing to 1,500 feet in the Baronnies Hills, which form part of the Alpines foothills. This is where family son-in-law, Jean Ezingeard expanded the estate, replanting the family's vineyards in the 1940s. By 2004, Ezingeard was ready to scale back; the same time Gérard and Denise were actively in search of their own property. Conversations with locals throughout the Rhone Valley, a few communications with Parker followed by meetings with celebrity winemakers in the region all pointed to Ezingeard and his Domaine les Aussellons. Timing was everything. The group came together, discussed matters and tasted multiple vintages of wine from the estate which Parker described then as "one of 3 most high potential properties in Vinsobres." In late 2004, Domaine les Aussellons became Domaine Constant-Duquesnoy. A decade later, Jeb bestowed his highest marks to this "rock star effort." |
