Situated in the heart of the village of Margaux on the D2, the magnificently detailed 18^th century Chateau Malescot St. Exupery rests on a gravelly hilltop above the Gironde, surrounded by manicured grounds adjoining the vineyards of Chateau Margaux and owned by the Zuger family for over a half century. Under the direction of third generation Jean Luc Zuger since 1994 with advice from famed consultant Michel Rolland, the estate’s gently sloping vineyards span 23.5 hectares planted mostly to Cabernet Sauvignon with about a third Merlot and small parcels of Cab Franc and Petit Verdot on deep gravel, chalk and clay soils mixed with iron. After vinifying the parcels separately in a mix of stainless steel and concrete tanks of varied sizes, the beautifully balanced 2010 Malescot St. Exupery was aged in 60% new French oak barriques for 16 months before being bottled unfiltered, yielding fresh, layered fruit with velvety tannins and a long, juicy finish, “standing out as one of the more dramatic, demonstrative wines in the appellation” according to the Wine Advocate’s William Kelley and now ready to enjoy with over 10 years of bottle aging in pristine conditions at the Chateau.

Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Malescot St. Exupery wafts gracefully out of the glass with scents of potpourri, raspberry coulis and kirsch over a cassis and warm plums core with a touch of pencil shavings. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is packed with juicy red and black fruits, sporting a firm, fine-grained texture and oodles of freshness. It has a good, long and remarkably pure finish.

A wine with beautiful strawberry and chocolate with hints of pie crust. It's full-bodied with super integrated tannins and a long, long finish. Needs at least four to five years to really come together but so wonderful. Not the amazing 2009 but clearly outstanding.

This delivers a slightly chewy-edged feel, with charcoal and roasted alder hints holding sway over the core of steeped damson plum, black currant and anise notes. Shows grip through the finish, but stays long, featuring a lovely backdrop of tar and warm stone. The excellent range and drive should pay off in the cellar. Best from 2015 through 2030.

Good deep ruby-red. High-pitched aromas of raspberry, cherry liqueur, flowers and cedary cigar box. A sweet, dense midweight with penetrating red cherry and floral flavors accented by sound acidity. Nothing thick or heavy about this wine but it possesses plenty of chewy depth. Boasts excellent early balance but has the firm, sweet tannins and finishing bite and length for at least a couple decades of positive evolution in bottle.
