Violets, fresh blackberries and blueberries and white pepper. A little herbal but savory on the palate with dense, nicely chewy tannins. 85% malbec, 10% tannat and 5% petit verdot. Vegan. Drink now. Screw cap.

91 points, James Suckling (May 2022)

The dark red 2021 Malbec is young, primary and fresh, with ripe fruit and nice balance. It is varietal and has notes of violets and small berries and a touch of herbs. It's medium-bodied with medium ripeness and moderate alcohol, 13.9%. In reality, it's not 100% Malbec, as it contains 10% Tannat and 5% Petit Verdot. A serious red for very little money.

Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina

92JS 91WA

A fresh and spicy malbec with plenty of currants, red cherries and a hint of black olives. Linear and juicy on the palate with a medium body and a flavorful, fruity finish. Sleek tannins thread through it all. Drink now.

92 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Apr 2023)

Tasting the 2022 Crios Malbec next to the new organic one, it was easy to see how this wine from the Valle de Uco (from Los Chacayes, Vista Flores, Los Árboles and Gualtallary Sur) is subtler and has a different point of balance despite having very similar parameters. Here, 40% of the volume spends eight months in used French oak barrels, but there is no aromatic influence of the élevage. It's fresh, balanced and juicy but with a little more austerity and fine-grained tannins. Clean, approachable and tasty. 720,000 bottles produced represents a huge chunk of the total production of the winery.

2021 Familia Zuccardi Malbec Q (750ml)
Malbec from Uco Valley, Mendoza, Argentina

93W&S 93JS 92WA 92V 91WS

A selection from vineyards in Vista Flores and La Consulta, this wine is fun and zesty, focusing on malbec’s fresher side with wild blueberry flavors and violet scents. The snappy herbal pop in the tannins suggest vertically-integrated complexity, from purposeful harvest to Zuccardi’s light-handed vinification.

93 points, Wine & Spirits (Oct 2022)

A spicy malbec with a touch of fine herbs, oyster sauce and dark minerals to the fresh blueberries. A very fresh and nicely chewy expression of malbec with a medium to full body on the palate. Tannins are tight, fresh and grained. Mostly from Paraje Altamira and Los Chacayes. Try in 2025.

93 points, James Suckling (Mar 2023)

The 2021 Q Malbec comes from Altamira and Chacayes and was made with a significant part of full clusters (especially Altamira) and aged mostly in concrete to keep that sense of purity. It has notes of some blue fruit, aromatic herbs and a citrus twist, reminiscent of green tea. It is floral, expressive, perfumed and fine-boned, with a medium-bodied palate where the tannins are fine and there's some grip. 500,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in February 2022.

92+ points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Nov 2022)

The 2021 Malbec Zuccardi Q from Los Chacayes and Paraje Altamira, Uco Valley was a third aged for 12 months in French barrels. Purple in hue. It has a clear nose of violet, thyme and fresh plum along with subtle aromas from the aging process. It’s juicy in the mouth with reactive tannins and a compact, fruity flavor. The cool year has helped with the character and style.

92 points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous (Nov 2022)

2020 El Enemigo Malbec (750ml)
Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina

The 2020 Malbec also includes 8% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, sourced from Gualtallary in the Uco Valley. It was aged for 15 months in foudres, resulting in a purple color. The nose presents plums, violets, sage and bitter orange. Dry and juicy on the palate, it moves with a nimble flow lifted by balanced acidity. The apparent absence of tannins contributes to its voluminous and weightless mouthfeel.

94 points, Joaquín Hidalgo, Vinous (Sep 2023)

The 2020 Malbec shows a little more generous, reflecting a warmer and dry year, with black fruit, spices and herbs, a medium to full-bodied palate and some chalky tannins. It has grip and should do well with food. It matured in 100-year-old foudres for 15 months. 35,000 bottles produced.

2018 Tikal Amorio (750ml)
Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina

The excellent pure Malbec 2018 Amorío comes from Paraje Altamira and shows clean varietal characteristics, floral aromas and very fine tannins, with the chalky texture of the limestone soils. It's medium-bodied and has integrated oak in the shape of some spices. It's tasty, with the 2018 freshness.

92 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Mar 2021)

This wine, blended from vineyards around Paraje Altamira, spends a year in French and American oak (70/30, half of the barrels new). Aromatically unique, with Sichuan-peppercorn florality and blackberry-liqueur richness, this wine’s alcohol points up the lip-smacking tannins. Pour it next to roast pork belly with cracklings.

2015 Colome Altura Maxima Malbec (750ml)
Malbec from Salta, Argentina

95WA 93V

The 2015 Altura Máxima Malbec is all black olives, decayed violets and malted cereals, a wild and unusual wine with high ripeness but a medium-bodied palate with fine-grained tannins. It is produced with grapes from their seven-year-old vineyard at 3,100 meters in altitude, the highest vineyard in the world producing commercial wine. The grapes were harvested fully ripe at the end of April, which is the equivalent to the end of October in the northern hemisphere. Here, latitude compensates for the altitude, and the grapes manage to ripen fully with strong exposure to sunlight. It matured in fourth use French barriques for 24 months. 6,900 bottles were filled in December 2017.

95 points, Luis Gutiérrez, Wine Advocate (Issue # 237 - Jun 2018)

Saturated ruby. An essence of Malbec on the nose, with slightly liqueur-like black fruit, smoky mineral and bitter chocolate flavors complicated by a note of espresso from the wine's oak element (24 months in Taransaud barriques but only 10% new). Wonderfully dense, sappy and concentrated, communicating a powerful impression of soil to its dark berry and deep chocolate flavors. Most impressive today on the slowly building, palate-drenching whiplash of a finish. My one quibble: with its hints of roasted, desiccated fruit, this wine conveys less energy than the 2017 Autentico Malbec.
