I began using B21 about 2 years ago. Wish I had found them sooner. They represent about 70% to 80 % of my liquor buys. Only the odd things are purchased elsewhere. Once you use them you will be hooked. Inventory, professional staff, quick shipping and competative pricing are what I really appreciate. Try them, you have nothing to lose and much to gain.

A load of top scoring 2019 Bordeaux values just arrived. Called "one of the most consistent vintages in Bordeaux in the 21st Century" by the Wine Independent's Lisa Perrotti-Brown with quality "incredibly reliable from top to bottom," these top rated 2019 selections offer the winning combination of approachability and longevity, unbeatably priced for Bordeaux fans seeking value to stock the cellar.

Declaring 2019 an outstanding vintage "that readers will love to have in their cellar," Jeb Dunnuck calls the Merlot-dominated 92 pt. 2019 Clos du Roy from Fonsac "a hidden gem" that "should keep for a decade," while describing the age worthy 93 pt. 2019 La Rose Perriere as "full-bodied, rich, structured" and the concentrated 94 pt. 2019 Chateau Potensac as a "beautifully pure, elegant Medoc that's well worth seeking out." Producing "phenomenal wines in every appellation," Antonio Galloni of Vinous calls the aromatic 94 pt. 2019 Virginie de Valandraud Blanc "a total knock-out" hinting of wild peach and honeysuckle, while the 100% Merlot 94 pt. 2019 Chateau Les Gravieres is "a "deep, mineral-driven St. Emilion of real distinction," and the rich 94 pt. 2019 Labegorce is a "succulent Margaux" that's "ample and expressive." Calling 2019 a vintage offering "harmony, balance and freshness," James Suckling describes the full-bodied 95 pt. 2019 Moulin du Cadet St. Emilion as boasting "wonderful energy," while the 93 pt. Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated 2019 Chateau Chasse-Spleen offers "chewy tannins and vibrant, juicy fruit" and the richly aromatic 97 pt. 2019 Chateau Soutard-Cadet blends 90% Merlot and 10% Cab Franc to reveal "firm tannins and light, toasted oak" built for the long haul. The Wine Advocate's William Kelley describes the full-bodied 94 pt. 2019 Chateau Bellefont-Belcier from St. Emilion as "velvety and seamless," while he calls the impeccably balanced 97 pt. 2019 Chateau Saint-Pierre "the most gourmand, immediate wine of Saint-Julien," describing the 2019's overall as offering "notable intensity and persistence of flavor." Calling 2019 a vintage of "rich and lush wines," Inside Bordeaux's Jane Anson describes the deeply aromatic 95 pt. 2019 Chateau Cantenac-Brown as "well muscled" with a "ton of tightly packed black fruit," and calls the Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated 97 pt. 2019 Chateau Gruaud Larose "totally gorgeous" and the essence of "St. Julien in a glass," while the stunning 98 pt. 2019 Rauzan-Segla is "well made and well delivered" with "Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant fruits," boasting layered tannins built for decades of enjoyment.

Calling it "a truly great vintage for Bordeaux," Neal Martin of Vinous enthusiastically endorsed the 2019s as "more opulent and bigger" at a recent retrospective tasting, all the more reason to pick a few favorites or mix a case or two of these top rated 2019 Bordeaux selections while they remain available and exceptionally priced to enjoy now and over the next decades.

Savoury, chiselled and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated fruits, totally gorgeous and so moreish. Controlled power, huge precision, with an elasticity to the tannins. It is Left Bank in a glass, St Julien in a glass, and easily one of the greatest Gruaud Larose's at this stage for a good few decades. Harvest September 20 to October 5. First year in certified organic conversion. Totally beautiful. 80% new oak

97 points, Jane Anson (Nov 2021)

A gorgeous dark purple colour in the glass with a bright pink rim. It is a little reticent on the nose, just giving a hint of fragranced fruit with dark chocolate, caramel and sweet coffee touches - so inviting. Ultra sleek and suave on the palate but at the same time racy and vibrant. A combination of rich black fruits and quite savoury aspects on the palate, tar, tobacco and wood smoke with black currants and cherries but here the emphasis really is on those herbal, medicinal aspects that give this such a serious tone but also such interest and intrigue. Lifted and bright on the palate but soft tannins letting the aromatics do all the talking. Seductive. Will be incredibly moreish in a few years.

96 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Jan 2022)

The 2019 Gruaud Larose is performing extremely well in bottle, wafting from the glass with aromas of wild berries and plums mingled with notions of licorice, potpourri, pencil shavings and subtle soil tones. Medium to full-bodied, elegant and seamless, with powdery tannins and succulent acids, it's remarkably suave and refined for a wine of obvious breadth, concentration and power.

95+ points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Apr 2022)

The 2019 Gruaud Larose is composed of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple colored, it needs a fair bit of swirling to unlock notes of pencil lead, black olives, anise and dried roses with a core of black currant pastilles, Morello cherries, cedar chest, and iron ore. Medium to full-bodied, the flavors slowly grow in the mid-palate with layer upon layer of crucnhy black and red fruits and lots of earthy accents, finishing very long with lingering fragrance.

2022 Chateau Gruaud Larose (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, France

The 2022 Château Gruaud Larose is largely Cabernet Sauvignon yet includes 14% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc that was brought up in 95% new barrels. It's an inky-hued 2022 that has a killer nose of crème de cassis, lead pencil shavings, liquid violets, and a beautiful, crushed stone-like minerality. This powerful, full-bodied Gruaud La Rose has plenty of mid-palate depth, fine, polished tannins, and a great finish. It's probably best hidden in the back of the cellar for a decade if possible, but it should be incredibly long-lived. I think it's as good as the 2018 and one of the absolute classics from this château.

97+ points, Jeb Dunnuck (Feb 2025)

A very Cabernet-focused blend on the 2022 Gruaud, with 83% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc, with the 14% remaining being all Merlot. It starts with a dark, brooding and savoury character on the nose, with threads of liquorice, tar, currant and smoke, but this is nuanced with a little white peach and sandalwood lift. The palate is fresh and supple, textural with plenty of dark fruit substance, and riven with ripe and beautifully integrated tannins, giving the palate a real sense of grip and lift. There is a significant tannic grip here, but it is so ripe and tightly knit, and it sits cohesively integrated in the body of the wine. The finish is a delight, a long and lingering presence of dark fruits and powdery, smoky, close-knit tannins. This structure will surely carry this wine forward for decades;this is surely a return to form for Gruaud-Larose, reminiscent of the great 2000 vintage. It is certainly one of the better vintages I have tasted here in recent times, at the very least. Tasted twice. The alcohol on the label is 13.5%.

97 points, Chris Kissack, Wine Independent (Jun 2025)

Compelling from the first sip, this has excellent balance on the palate delivering a wine with freshness and lift as well as depth and breadth. Lovely licks of bitterness and salty stones join ripe blackcurrants and juicy plums. You can feel the power no doubt but it's under the silky frame tempering it and making this rich but utterly charming. A great Gruaud and comes in at 13.5% ABV.

97 points, Georgina Hindle, Decanter (Jan 2025)

Bottled in May 2024, the 2022 Gruaud Larose has turned out beautifully, wafting from the glass with aromas of dark berries, violets, vine smoke, pen ink and tar. Medium to full-bodied, dense and layered, it's rich and broad, with terrific depth at the core, sweet structuring tannins and a long, expansive finish. Checking in at 13.6% alcohol, it's the estate's first organic-certified vintage.

96 points, William Kelley, Wine Advocate (Mar 2025)

The 2022 Gruaud Larose, the first year made organically, left a big impression when tasted from barrel, evoking some of the legendary wines from the estate encountered in the past. Bottled in May 2024, it has a supremely well-defined bouquet featuring intense black fruit laced with pencil box and forest floor scents. Typically Saint-Julien in style—this communicates where it comes from. The palate is fresh and vibrant. This is a more structured and delineated Gruaud than previous vintages, with greater brightness. It has "clean lines," so to speak, gently fanning out toward the finish that contains just the right amount of sapidity and becomes peppery with time in the glass. This is an outstanding success that completely justifies my positive review—who knows, it may kick on from bottle.

96 points, Neal Martin, Vinous (Feb 2025)

Quite a discreet nose of dark fruit and minerals, with excellent depth. Uncoiled power and intensity, with a full body and firm but polished tannins that dissolve into a long and close-knit finish. It goes on for almost a minute. Try from 2028.

96 points, Zekun Shuai, James Suckling (Jan 2025)

Savoury, intense, enjoyable, Cabernet Sauvignon dominant in blend and character, balanced, finessed, charcoal and campfire, cassis, blueberry and pomegranate, good stuff.

2019 Sarget de Gruaud-Larose (750ml)
Cabernet Sauvignon from Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, France

89V

The 2019 Sarget de Gruaud-Larose has a well-defined bouquet with tertiary red berry fruit, understated initially but gaining intensity with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit, quite tarry with a fair proportion of tobacco and black pepper on the finish. There is quite a lot going on in this wine and it should age well in bottle. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.
