Anchor's Porter is ink-black with only a sliver of garnet, capped by a frothy, mocha-colored head. Its aroma is filled with plums and raisins, accented by soft, roasted coffee scents. The brew warms the tongue with rich and fruity flavors, including coffee, chocolate and cherries. There is also a subtle, citrusy hop flavor that materializes late, just before the grainy, dry finish takes hold. Anchor's flavor lasts incredibly long, as cherry and roasted qualities are evident well into the aftertaste, both complementing the beer's medium body and warm alcohol presence.

This traditional, balanced porter pours almost black, with a thick, tan-colored head. The nose suggests an attractive, layered mix of dried dark fruits—prunes, figs, raisins—roasted malt, coffee and bittersweet cocoa powder. It's flavorful and creamy, with a lifting note of citrus oil on the close, followed by a dry, bitter chocolate flavor. It's bold and flavorful, yet surprisingly smooth and easy to drink.
