Sam Adams Cherry Wheat 6pk
American Pale Wheat Ale from Boston, Massachusetts

88WE 88BTI

Though fruit beers are a polarizing style, this is a definite love it or hate it beer. If you like assertive cherry candy flavors, then you'll be all good. If you're not a huge fan of the fruit, especially candies with this flavor, then take a pass. It's cherry-driven for sure, but more of the candied Jolly Rancher and fruit-roll up type of flavor than fresh. Otherwise, it's clean, light and easy to drink.

88 points, Wine Enthusiast (Jun 2011)

Minutely hazy light gold color. Fruity aromas and flavors of maraschino cherry and almond cookie with a bright, finely carbonated, fruity light-to-medium body and a sleek, breezy cherry shortcake with whipped cream, wheat wafer, and starfruit finish. A smooth and easy cherry flavored ale.

Sam Adams Cold Snap 6pk
Witbier from Boston, Massachusetts

93BTI

Hazy old gold color. Aromas and flavors of dried apricot and mango, banana bread and mousse, spiced nougat, and malted chocolate with a satiny, tangy, finely carbonated, dry-yet-fruity medium-to-full body and a tingling, appealing, long finish with notes of starfruit and jicama and grassy earth finish. An attractive fruity, lightly spicy witbier that goes down easy.

Sam Adams Summer Ale 6pk
American Pale Wheat Ale from Boston, Massachusetts

89WE 89DM

A tell tale sign that summer's finally here is when your favorite local watering hole has updated their Sam Seasonal tap to Summer Ale. It's a perennially refreshing selection, with a gorgeous golden color and forward notes of lemon, green banana, white pepper, cracker malt and subtle allspice. Flavors of toasted wheat and lemon pith unfold on the palate, complemented by medium carbonation and a slightly grainy texture. The finish is crisp and refreshing, with a lingering, juicy citrus character.

89 points, Wine Enthusiast (Jun 2015)

A bready, lemon-nipped aroma drifts up from the tight bubbles of this slightly hazy, deep golden brew. Brewed with lemon zest and grains of paradise, this summer seasonal begins with full-flavored grainy wheat that explodes on the tongue with biting lemon notes. As the pithy citrus and touch of pepper take over the palate, they combine with a dash of bitterness that immediately dries out the sides of the tongue. As Summer Ale finishes, lemon and a hint of grains of paradise—imagine white pepper mixed with evergreen—linger crisply on the tongue.

Clear brassy hue, excellent suds. Mint, marmalade, biscuits, faint caramel, blonde tobacco, ripe pear, clean esters. Very smooth, deep crispness, hop bitterness, citric rind, leafy, dried grass, lightly toasted bread, kumquats, papaya, herbal, drying finish. SN pretty much nailed it with this one, some say this is now the benchmark for the style ... if so that would be setting it pretty high.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale 6pk Bottles
American Pale Ale from Chico, California

92WE 91BA 91DM

A definite classic, this is one of the most iconic and recognizable craft beers out there. The hops take center stage in the form of ripe grapefruit peel, fading into a lingering resiny flavor accented with pine that stays through the mildly bitter finish. The assertive citrus characteristics are kept in check by a clean malty core and cleansing carbonation.

92 points, Wine Enthusiast (Sep 2011)

Slightly rustic, raw and mildly pungent hop aroma of leaves, flowers and heavy on the citric fruit. An undertone of grain is in the background also. Creamy smooth with a soft malt crispness that cradles a bready malt flavour. Hop bitterness is more than ample and shows off a bit yet there is an underlying sweetness that seems to put everything back together. Esters through a shadow of alcohol down which make a potential heady night. In the finish is a citric hop flavour with a touch more sweetness from the residual sugars, though this brew seems to dry up a little in the end. The typical American Pale Ale ... The classic American Pale Ale basically as far as what people know. A good and solid ale for what I think.

91 points, BeerAdvocate (Mar 2003)

Calling Sierra Nevada Pale Ale just another American pale ale is an understatement -- like calling the Mona Lisa just another painting. Perhaps a better way to say it is that SNPA is the American pale ale. What's so incredible about it? To start, the hops have more grapefruit notes than other pale ales, and an appealing thick maltiness wafts into your presence on the first pour. The crisp hop flavor, frothy head, and smooth body will satiate your tongue.

This is a balanced and quite drinkable DIPA with sweet citrus leading the way, followed by notes of crisp dried malt, red apple and juicy white grape. Fresh lemon and grass flavors fill the palate, with a pronounced bitterness sparring with the biscuity malt core. The finish offers a gentle warming sensation from the alcohol.

This deep gold brew wears a creamy white head that lingers like a slow drawl. Sweet citrus hops, grapefruit peel, and orange zest dance through the hop-laden bouquet, previewing the equally hop-tastic swallow. First, sweet malt makes an appropriately profound statement with an excellent stretch of caramel before spicy, zesty hops cascade across the tongue with grapefruit peel and citrus notes. Mellow bitterness draws this beer to a lovely conclusion with a lingering alcohol warmth in the throat. This IPA has a kick, but is also creamy, soft, and balanced enough to maintain drinkability.

Victory Golden Monkey Tripel Ale with Spice Added 6pk Cans
Tripel from Downingtown, Pennsylvania

90WE #25 Top 25

This is a bold, full, creamy beer, as a tripel should be. A gorgeous clear orange-gold color in the glass, it opens with a warm bouquet of spiced orange, honey and tangy wheat. The mouthfeel is round and generous, with a sweet spiced-citrus flavor that's framed by softer hints of honeysuckle, white tea and ginger. The warmth and spice of the finish lifts the ripe flavors and slightly viscous texture off the palate.

Victory Sour Monkey 6pk Cans
American Wild Ale from Downingtown, Pennsylvania

90WE

This bottling is a wild spin on Victory's Golden Monkey, the brewery's Belgian-style tripel. A brilliant golden color, it's a strong and intense brew, leading with scents of fresh citrus, freshly baked bread, dried grass, underripe stone fruit and green apple. There's a pleasant weight and richness to the smooth palate that's lifted through the close by bright, lactic acidity. Aside for the mouthfeel, the alcohol is well-integrated and balanced, while light carbonation assists in lifting the stone-fruit and citrus flavors and carrying them through to the dry, herbal finish. It's not over-the-top sour, and is surprisingly easy to drink.
