One reason I love discovering small growers of Champagne like Pascal Agrapart and his small acreage in Avize is that they care about terroir not house style. Pascal is closer to the earth, the seasons and the many differences of every parcel; growers like him make wine not product. Each of his six cuvees is a distinct jewel. And yet they cost far less than the fancy cuvees of the big houses. Agrapart's 7 Crus Blanc de Blancs is a great example. I think it's the best value in Champagne, carefully crafted from seven top vineyards to make a beautifully lean and lively wine, and yet we can sell it at less than $35. Try that with the big names and you'll barely get the lowest of the standard corporate blends. With Agrapart you get a distinct elegant taste of peaches and almonds and an escape from the ordinary. I know you appreciate the distinction of these grower Champagnes: We sold out of our last shipment of Agrapart's award winning Terroirs before they even arrived. The 7 Crus will go fast too, especially at this price.

Spiced with licorice snap, pickled ginger and clove, this is firm and focused, with flavors of green apple, white peach and lemon peel. The mineral undercurrent pushes through on the finish. Drink now through 2018.

The NV Brut Blanc de Blancs 7 Crus shows lively freshness and in its lemon, spices and flowers. This mid-weight, focused Champagne is all elegance and class. I especially like the cut and pure vibrancy of the finish. The 7 Crus is a fabulous introduction to the Agrapart house style. This version is 50% 2007 and 50% 2008 juice, and it is the younger vintage that truly seems to drive the wine’s personality. As the name suggest, the 7 Crus is made from seven villages: Avize, Oger, Oiry, Cramant, Avenay Val d’Or, Bergeres les Vertus & Mardeuil (70% Grand Cru, 30% Premier Cru). Dosage was 7 grams per liter. Disgorged July, 2011. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2016.

I realize I am beginning to sound like a broken record, but these are once again the finest wines I have tasted from Agrapart. From top to bottom, these Champagnes are simply stunning. All of the wines are 100% Chardonnay and see full malolactic fermentation.
