From seven tiny parcels in and around the lieu-dit of Pignan (sandy soils), the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape Les 7 de Pignan looks to be even better than the debut 2020 (none was bottled in 2021). Seductive notions of stone fruit, roses and black tea leaves show incredible complexity and elegance in this full-bodied wine that's concentrated and tannic yet supple, finishing long and velvety. Wow.

The 2022 marks the second time that Nicolas Boiron vinified a Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les 7 de Pignan, a single-varietal Grenache from sandy soils. Coming in at 15.5% alcohol, the 2022 unfurls with raspberry, strawberry, crushed violets and licorice alongside leafy undertones. Bursting with energy and quite expressive, this savory Châteauneuf brings it home with remarkable concentration and an expansive finish.

Ample, intense and well-built 100% grenache with notes of dark cherries, dried thyme, bay leaves and peppercorns. It's full-bodied with finely grained tannins. Textural and well-driven with a pulpy, blue-fruited profile on the finish. Flavorful and focused finish. Try after 2026.
