A pungent wave of smoke and minerals gives way to crisp yellow apple, apricot and gingery spice as the 2019 Brut Metodo Classico Lugana blossoms in the glass. This is sharply focused and chiseled with a lovely inner sweetness to balance. Sour citrus mixes with a salty flourish to add further contrast toward the close. This finishes with medium length and a bit of a bitter twang yet keeps the mouth watering for more as a hint of hazelnut punctuates the experience nicely. (Lot 12720; Disgorment November, 2022.)

All Trebbiano di Lugana. Traditional Method. Three years on lees. Impressive in terms of heft and palate-coating richness. A big mouthful of poached apricot and glazed quince, coated with truffled custard and almond meal. A phenolic waft of gentle oxidation across the rather sweet feeling finish. Drink now.
