Rémi Niero's tiny family domain amounts to just eight hectares: four in Condrieu, two in Côte Rôtie and one each in Saint-Joseph and IGP. The winery is located at the appropriately named Impasse du Pressoir, near the Mairie in the village of Condrieu. It's relatively recent in French terms, having been left to Rémi's father by his wife's father in 1973. Follow that? That would've been Rémi's maternal grandmother. Rémi started working with his father in 2005, and his dad retired in 2010. Rémi's day job is as a mechanical engineer at Pellenc, the French manufacturer of viticultural and winemaking equipment, so the technical aspects of the winery are completely up to date, and the wines are clean and expressive.

The 2019 Condrieu Chery is always a more steely, mineral-driven example of this appellation, but it packs a punch in 2019 and has powerful notes of buttered citrus, pineapple, honeysuckle, and a liquid rock-like minerality. These carry to a rich, full-bodied Condrieu with an opulent texture, moderate acidity, and a great finish. As with most 2019 Condrieu (and 2018s), it's not going to be the longest lived, but who cares? Drink this brilliant wine over the coming 4-5 years.
