Largely in the same style, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Rutherford Reserve reminds me of a top Pauillac with its darker blackcurrant fruit as well as notes of lead pencil, crushed stone, cedar, and smoked tobacco. Rich and full-bodied, it has wonderful purity of fruit and the balance and structure to evolve for two decades.

Blended of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petite Verdot and 2% Merlot, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve struts confidently out of the glass with notions of stewed black cherries, mulberries, fresh blackcurrants and crushed blackberries with wafts of bouquet garni, tobacco leaf, dusty soil and tapenade. Medium to full-bodied, the palate bursts with crunchy black fruit and earthy layers, framed by firm, grainy tannins and bags of freshness, finishing with a compelling herbal lift.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is loaded with inky dark fruit, lavender, spice, new leather, licorice and mocha. Even with all of its flavor intensity, the 2018 remains light on its feet and easy to enjoy young.
