Sadly, UPS damaged my shipment of the last bottles of Banyuls wine in B‑21 inventory. The message I received was that the unbroken bottles of my order was being returned to sender (B‑21). I was beyond bummed! B‑21's customer service was extraordinary. In order to arrange for a replacement shipment to be sent, they had to replenish their stock. Within a few hours, I got a message saying the wine was ordered, and confirmed that I'd receive an email when the order was shipped. I couldn't ask for better service. I highly recommend B‑21 for their selection and service. Thanks so much for going above and beyond.

I love this wine! It was delivered promptly and very nicely packed. The only thing is the carrier left it at the main building and not to the address I specified. I guess next time I will add a phone number for the carrier to call me. Love this Sangria!!

The folks at B‑21 turn orders quickly and the$24/case shipping cost is reasonable. My shipment arrived with one broken bottle that apparently was empty when it was packed, as there was no evidence of wine in any dividers, the bottles in the case, or the case itself. The cork was still in the bottle. It was disappointing to lose a bottle of my wife's favorite wine, and they refunded the price of the bottle without delay. It was unfortunate that this happened, but hard to understand how an empty bottle could have been put in the case. I am satisfied with their response and hope to continue doing business with them.

Like many of Burgundy’s estates, the history of Domaine de Montille in Volnay can be tracked back for centuries, with the original domaine established in 1750. But it’s Domaine de Montille’s modern day story that places it among the top producers in the region, a reputation that has been built consistently over the last several decades, now culminating in the release of these highly rated 2018 Red Burgundy selections.

Hubert de Montille was a pioneer in the movement towards terroir-driven wines and estate bottling when he took over the family business in 1947, but it has been the efforts of his son Étienne in the last 30 years that have propelled the estate to its place among the upper echelon of producers in the region. In addition to converting the estate vineyards to organic and eventually biodynamic practices, Étienne expanded their holdings to include some of the Côte de Beaune’s and the Côte de Nuits’ greatest terroirs, including acquiring the Thomas-Moillard vineyards (along with Domaine Dujac) in Vosne-Romanee, Clos du Roi and Beaune Grèves in the early 2000’s. Domaine de Montille’s exceptional range of vineyards includes the Beaune 1er Cru "Les Grèves” located just below Bouchard's famous "Vigne de l'Enfant Jesus" - the 1er Cru Aux Malconsorts which sits at the southern border of the famed Grand Cru "La Tache,” sharing similar altitude, exposure and soils - and the Corton Clos du Roi, among the handful of Grand Crus produced in the Côte de Beaune. While the de Montille’s wine making style is classic, generally minimizing the use of new oak in barrel aging, these top cuvées receive up to 40-50% in the most age-worthy vintages like 2018, described by the Wine Enthusiast’s Anne Krebiehl as possessing “soaring aromas and red-fruited, poetic allure.” This selection of long-lived 2018 Domaine de Montille Red Burgundies offer layers of pure fresh fruit, balanced minerality and great finesse, with the structure to age and evolve, continuing the estate’s legacy as one of the top Domaines in Burgundy, and representing exceptional value.

The 2018 Pommard Les Pezerolles 1er Cru has a more detailed, purer bouquet compared to Les Grands Epenots, offering vivacious dark cherry, raspberry and pomegranate notes and good mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with fine definition and finer tannins, and the calcaire soils plus the 30% whole cluster lend real definition and personality on the finish. Excellent.

The 2018 Pommard 1er Cru Les Pezerolles was showing especially well, bursting from the glass with scents of orange rind, peonies, wild berries and cinnamon that's quite marked by its whole-cluster component. Medium to full-bodied, succulent and supple, it's ripe and enveloping, with supple, powdery tannins cloaked in a fleshy core of fruit.
