This has an attractive nose of poached plums, spiced cherries, mushrooms, praline, vanilla and hazelnuts. Creamy and polished for the appellation, with a medium body and firm, silky tannins. Supple and well integrated now. Drink or hold.

The 2018 Nobile di Montepulciano Poggetto di Sopra Alliance Vinum speaks in whispers; swirling unlocks black currant, clove and lavender nuances. This is an elegant and round expression. Sweet spice hints complement ripe blackberry and plum notes. A subtle twang of candied citrus and residual acids mingle through the finale. The 2018 finishes lightly structured, maintaining a finessed personality from start to finish. While this isn't a wine for long-term cellaring, it will provide plenty of pleasure over the next decade. The Poggetto di Sopra hails from a single parcel of vines that were planted in 1978.
