The Jungian flood archetype is no stranger to the Willamette Valley and much of the Pacific Northwest. As the last Ice Age ended and glaciers began to melt, the Missoula Floods occurred some forty times over a span of two thousand years. Repeatedly, a colossal glacial ice dam ruptured in the mountains of Idaho and Montana sending cubic miles of water careening west toward the Pacific Ocean, etching the Columbia Gorge as its path, and some flowed south turning the Willamette Valley into a temporary lake. Random boulders scattered in the vineyards of Gran Moraine are termed erratic as they are unrelated to the surroundings. These erratics comprised the Missoula glacier's moraine and were propelled by these cataclysmic floods, to rest upon the oldest geology in the Willamette Valley dating 50 million years ago. Truly antediluvian! The Yamhill-Carlton district, one of six AVAs in Willamette Valley, is uniquely comprised of these ancient marine sedimentary soils over sandstone and siltstone. This soils provide excellent drainage for vines which naturally controls vigor, the source of minerality in Yamhill-Carlton wines, while moderating the acidity. Yamhill-Carlton wines are deep ruby red, powerful red and black fruits with elegant tannins. This Gran Moraine is textbook Yamhill-Carlton.

Polished and elegantly complex, with expressive cherry and blueberry flavors, accented by crushed stone and black tea, building tension and lively acidity toward refined tannins. Drink now through 2025. 4,300 cases made.

94 points, Tim Fish, Wine Spectator (Oct 2019)

The medium ruby-purple colored 2017 Pinot Noir Yamhill-Carlton features scents of crushed blueberries, warm cranberries and blackberries with notions of nutmeg, cinnamon, bergamot, charcuterie and earth. The medium-bodied palate is silky with intense, spicy fruits, a grainy frame and good freshness, finishing long and spiced. This will benefit from another year in bottle. 4,315 cases produced.

92 points, Erin Brooks, Wine Advocate (Apr 2020)

Light and bright, poached cherries and berries lead to a smooth array of finely spiced cherry flavors and a smoothly delivered, plush and smooth palate.

92 points, James Suckling
