Enjoying both a change in the cellars as well as an expansion across the valley, Domaine des Valanges is continuing the steady, focused growth the Paquet family has followed since 1980. What began with a couple of hectares in Davayé, Saint Veran – with a breathtaking view of both the Roche de Solutré as well as the Roche de Vergisson – the Paquet estate has methodically, carefully expanded over the decades to include the finest old vine parcels across the village. When we first visited nearly a decade ago, Mathieu Paquet was at the wheel, bottling the finest Macons; rippling with integrity more reminiscent of the Côte than anyone else in the Mâconnais. Mathieu's brother Camille is now working side by side in the cellars at Domaine des Valanges, having worked elbow to elbow with his older brother since taking over for their father Michel, now retired. Camille has taken the family into Pouilly, as well, with the Domaine Camille Paquet, fantastic results already under his belt. For 2017, Camille has bottled a fantastic Mâcon-Prissé Le Clos at Domaine des Valanges, true in keeping with the family style. It's an exciting time for this family; I know I'll be keeping up with them, for sure.
