Cordero di Montezemolo's wines are very pretty. This is particularity true in 2016, a vintage associated with ripe, generous fruit – the Monfalletto is very Pinot Noir. With beautiful aromatics of dried flowers, lavender and violets followed by delicate textures and elegant tannins on the palate, the wine is most seductive. Generally the wines of La Morra do have more elegant, smooth tannins. Predominately sandy soils provide the harmonious elegance that is the hallmark of La Morra. Any visit to Barolo should include a panoramic, patio lunch at Bovio – a spectacular view of the Barolo region from the La Morra hill. The Barolo Enrico VI hails from grand cru Villero located across the vista south east in Casteglione Falletto, altogether a different wine. I love what they do with Nebbiolo at Cordero di Montezemolo.

Dear Barbera lovers, here's a wine that will steal your heart at the first pour. The Cordero di Montezemolo 2017 Barbera d'Alba Superiore Funtanì shows that dark garnet-crimson color that you might see in a fine swatch of velvety fabric. The aromas are beautifully sophisticated and elaborate, with dark fruit, spice, campfire ash and that special truffle-infused earthy smell of Piedmont. I am an enthusiastic fan of Barbera from the hot 2017 vintage, and this is one of the nicest, most-balanced expressions you will find.
