B-21 Top Recommendation
I've been extolling the virtues of my good friends the Massolino family of Serralunga d'Alba for many years. B-21 Barolo fans know their history by heart. After tasting their profound 2016s, however, I wanted to share something from the pages of Gambero Rosso. With so many Tre Bicchieri awards over the decades, I thought this review quite appropriate; Massolino's '16s are profound:
"If you go to Langhe seeking light, ethereal wines, be sure to give the estate owned by brothers Franco and Roberto Massolino a wide berth, as their ideal type of Nebbiolo (and other wines) has enormously powerful stuffing and tannic backbone. Its close-woven supporting structure appears biting when young, but acts as a sort of fuel for long aging – as you’d expect from legendary vineyards like Parafada, Margheria, and Vigna Rionda (on the western slope of Serralunga) and Parussi (in Castiglione Falletto)...."
