Fabulous, powerful and dense – renowned critic Antonio Galloni doesn't mince words when describing the exquisite 2018 Le Cinciole Petresco made from 100% Sangiovese. Located in the Conca d'Oro ("golden basin") below Panzano high in the Tuscan hills, Podere Le Cinicole embodies the passion and dedication of owners Luca and Valeria Orsini. Since the purchase of the estate in 1991, the owners have replanted and moved farming practices to biodynamic and organic, cultivating almost exclusively Sangiovese on their land. With wines ranging from Chianti Classico to this spectacular 2018 Petresco, Luca and Valeria are hands on from vineyard management to the winemaking.
Sourced from the highest vineyard, Le Cinciole Petresco has been produced as an IGT since 2009. On the palate this 2018 Petresco is pure Sangiovese, with rich ripe plums, black cherries and nuances of wild fennel. Boasting a lingering finish, the tannic backbone makes it an age-worthy choice indeed.
While it's often said the name Conca d'Oro derives from the fact that this is prime locale for growing Sangiovese, the name actually comes from its history of producing grain for one of Tuscany's staples, bread, till the mid-19th century. But while perhaps the "golden basin" originally referred to the glimmering fields of ripened wheat, we're certain once you try this 2018 Petresco you'll agree – there is indeed "gold in them thar hills." |
