The Brezza family has been making wine for over 100 years at their 60 plus acre estate next to the small town of Barolo. Since 1989, fourth generation owner Enzo Brezza has been winemaker at Azienda Agricola Brezza and the quality of the estate's Barolos have skyrocketed. Enzo was mentored by his father Oreste and also the esteemed traditional Barolo producer, Bartolo Mascarello – who is Enzo's uncle and godfather. Unlike many other regions in Italy, many of the great wine traditions in Piedmont continue to be a family affair. While Enzo is committed to a traditional style of winemaking including aging the wines in large cask and long macerations, he has taken a modern approach to the estate's viticulture, converting vineyards to fully organic certified in 2015. The resulting Barolos are exceptional.

Brezza's 2016 Barolo is made of fruit from estate vineyards in Novello, Monforte, and Barolo itself. The 2016 Brezza Cannubi from perhaps the most historic cru in all of Barolo is elegant in structure and complexity. The 2016 Brezza Sarmassa is also outstanding – Sarmassa has more clay than Cannubi and a distinct microclimate at altitudes of over 900 feet (it is the first area in Barolo where snow melts in the winter) producing a ripe, concentrated style with rich tannins.

Brezza has been labeled as "one of Piedmont's great undiscovered gems" by wine critic Antonio Galloni. At these incredible values, it's high time to be the first to discover these outstanding Brezza Barolos.

Aromas of rose petal, perfumed berry and menthol are front and center on this elegant, fragrant red. Loaded with finesse, the focused, full-bodied palate combines grace and structure, delivering succulent red cherry, raspberry compote, white pepper and star anise alongside bright acidity and youthfully taut, refined tannins. It's radiant. Drink 2024–2036.
