Giacomo Conterno winery recently acquired a portion of Barolo's Arione vineyard – and deemed it great enough to be a part of their epic Monfortino bottling. That says a lot about how confident Roberto Conterno is in this vineyard. Most of Arione was planted in the 1960s with some replanting during the 1980s and 1990s. No surprise that Conterno's famed Francia vineyard sits immediately north of Arione. During the 1970s, Bruno Giacosa bottled his Arione – maybe you're lucky enough to have a bottle or two in the cellar? That Conterno's 2015 Arione is trading at $300+ a bottle might give us some perspective here with the Boglietti scoring higher. With only 2,000 bottles of each produced, the essence of the truly great 2016 vintage with the magnificent core strength of Serralunga fashioned the rising star Enzo Boglietti's Arione and a classic Brunate, make these a rare find. Superlative wines to share for decades.
