The Janasse estate was founded in 1976 by Aimé Sabon, the father of Christophe and Isabelle, he oversees the vineyards today. A good sized domaine it is spread out in seventy parcels throughout the appellation. While Aimé works the vineyards organically, Christophe and Isabelle, are in charge of wine production. Christophe is a self-proclaimed "great defender of Grenache," which still represents 75% of their vines. This family team has been turning out killer wines that rival the best of the region.

Time will tell if this wine equals the stellar 2015; it's certainly very close in quality. The 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Vieilles Vignes is a blend of approximately 75% Grenache, 12% Mourvèdre, 8% Syrah and the rest other permitted varieties. Tarry and deep on the nose, it delivers waves of blackberries and black cherries on the palate, framing those flavors with plenty of richness, layers of silky tannins and a long, elegant finish.
