One of Peidmont’s “top-notch” Barolo producers is Conterno Fantino. Serious Barolo vineyard holdings, their address says it all: Via Ginestra 1 - 12065 Monforte d'Alba. Among their vineyards are and no surprise is ‘Ginestra’ (think Elio Grasso), as well as ‘Pajana’ (of Clerico fame), ‘Mosconi’ (E. Pira sources) and ‘Bussia Sottana’ (Aldo Conterno). The wines of Conterno Fantino, whether Barolo, Dolcetto or Barbera, are about purity and terroir expression. The 2016 Baroli are a year away – know that 2016 is great vintage for all of Piedmont. Until then, don’t overlook the ‘affordable’ wines that 2016 offers up. This Barbera d’Alba sure qualifies.

Elegantly balanced, harmonious. French oak is perfectly integrated, a serious tease for what is to come from 2016 Barolo's Nebbiolo. Layered aromatics, balanced acidity, lovely mid palate textures. Classic beauty.

Saturated with blackberry, black currant and violet flavors, with a hint of licorice, this red is intense and lively. Finishes with density and a light dusting of tannins. Drink now through 2023. 2,500 cases made, 200 cases imported.
