Fresh and precise, this white is a bit intense for the vintage, showing vanilla custard, apple tart and cardamom flavors. Harmonious and supple in texture, gliding to a long, refreshing finish. Drink now through 2031. 350 cases made, 40 cases imported.

Clüsserath and her father left optimal clusters hanging while picking for Kabinett and then returned late in late October and early November to capture two fuders’ worth of Spätlese. Ripe nectarine, pear and white peach dominate an effusive nose and a luscious, strikingly creamy palate. The lingering finish is seductively soothing and the sense of sweetness is adeptly judged. Here is another of the Ansgar Clüsserath 2016s that may well gain with time in bottle, and at the very least it’s almost sure to age gracefully.
