In testimony to the wide range of microclimatic options available in their sector of the Wachau, the Hirtzbergers not only once again rendered admirable Steinfeder even in the warm 2015 vintage, but the pickings took place exactly four weeks apart, the second of these not until October 27! Granted, at 11.5 percent alcohol this is legally nearly Federspiel, but it delivers all of the levity, refreshment and nuance for which one could wish. Scents and flavors of clover, lima bean and lentil are subtly tinged with stone, iodine and green herbs in this polished, persistent, perfectly poised performance.

Very well-made, with hints of smoky spice and oregano, while apple and peach flavors sneak in midpalate. Impressive for the category. Drink now through 2022. 50 cases imported.
