This wine was actually a Rosso di Montalcino last year but has happily become a full-fledged Brunello in this vintage. I'm told that this change is permanent. What I notice most about the Podere le Ripi 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Amore e Magia is the beauty and the richness of its color. The wine pours fourth with dark ruby intensity and purple accents of fuchsia. Fruit comes from a four-hectare site located at 200 to 250 meters above sea level near Castelnuovo dell'Abate on the eastern side of Montalcino, not far from the Lupi e Sirene vineyard that becomes another single-vineyard expression from Podere le Ripi. Following the brightness of the wine's appearance, you get a very incisive and direct bouquet with a sharp and vertical delivery that is pushed by a touch of volatility. This wine is very open and expressive, and it lays it all out for you to enjoy. Candied cherry and raspberry segue to Christmas spice and toasted nut. Some 15,000 bottles were made. It was bottled in July 2019 and went to market in January 2020.

Saturated ruby-red; darker than most Brunellos I tasted this year. Very deep aromas and luscious flavors of red cherry jam, raspberry jelly, cinnamon, vanilla and pomegranate juice. Youthfully chewy but noble tannins provide a welcome, silky backbone to the sweet fleshy fruit. Not shy in alcohol content but very well balanced, this wine’s opulent texture speaks well of the Castelnuovo dell’Abate subzone of Montalcino in a warm vintage.

Underbrush, scorched earth, grilled herb and mature black-skinned-berry aromas form the nose along with coconut sensations. Full bodied and savory, the elegant, concentrated palate delivers dried black cherry, licorice, tobacco and espresso alongside assertive, velvety tannins that leave a firm finish. Drink 2022–2030.

Soft and fruity red with ripe tannins and plum and berry aromas and flavors. Medium to full body. Velvety and rich finish. Shows density and beauty. Drink from 2020.
