The birthplace of Rioja, where every vine is estate owned, Marques de Murrieta spans 750 acres across the majestic Ygay Estate. Generations of proud traditionalists have toiled the land here, identifying three dozen unique parcels, where terroir and topography contribute to the unique cuvees we've been enjoying for decades. The benchmark for value-priced Rioja, nothing competes with Murrieta's Reserva Finca Ygay. One of the perennially consistent Rioja producers. Another gem in 2015. One of their more limited, inspired and unique wines has got to be this – their bottling known as Capellanía, from a single, centenarian vineyard of extremely old vines. It's a white wine – with the depth and soul of their reds – which takes its staggering complexity from a year and a half in new French oak barrels followed by one year in bottle. The vineyard itself, which is the source of the wine as well as the name, is planted on a ridge, the highest elevation in the Ygay Estate, perched at 1,600 feet elevation. Planted to 100% old-vine Viura, this site is exclusively segregated for this monumental bottling. Fermentation is intentionally slow, painstaking, lasting 24 days in steel. The final aging – in 225-liter French oak barrels – will take much longer, 17 months to reach its zenith. I've consumed the world's greatest white wines across decades worth of vintages. If you have a taste for the finest, this should be in your collection.

A linear and tight white with superb lemon curd, apple, lemon and creme caramel. Full body, phenolic tension and density give this white form and beauty. Extremely long and flavorful. Drink or hold.
