The custom cuvée for American importer Eric Solomon, the 2015 Black Slate La Morera is a blend of Garnacha Blanca with 5% Pedro Ximenez from the village of La Morera de Monstsant. The irony here is that the young vines used for this wine are planted on limestone soils rather than in the usual slate from Priorat. It was fermented in stainless steel and kept in contact with the lees for four months. All of the wines from the Black Slate project are now Vi de Villa, the official village category from the Priorat appellation. There is a mixture of white fruit, flowers and Mediterranean herbs that is quite captivating. The Garnacha Blanca dominates, but the Pedro Ximenez might provide a more austere, mineral hint, and perhaps a faint touch of petrol. The palate combines volume and fine minerality. 4,000 bottles were produced and filled in February 2016.
