Bob recently returned from touring Bordeaux, where he tasted with our favorite negociants, spending time catching up with long-time friends. One of those buddies is a guy I'm thrilled to introduce, as Jeffrey Davies has blazed trails others only wish they could; his name on a label of Bordeaux is as much a guarantee of quality and value as Kermit Lynch's is on one of those dozens of labels he's brought us from other regions of France. Tasting through dozens of wines with Jeffrey, Bob landed on today's selection, floored by the bang for the buck. Hundreds of cases are now en route, and I can't wait 'til you taste this stuff! The wine comes to us from Domaine du Bouscat, a 19th century estate near Fronsac –classified Bordeaux Superieur – and located not far from the Dordogne River. A long-standing family estate, Bouscat has remained in the Dubernard family since inception, multiple generations tending to its well-manicured gardens and parcels of very old vines for nearly 150 years. With an average vine age approaching 50 years, Bouscat is widely respected in the region for the depth of its various cuvees. The price of this selection is simply insane; easily THE Bordeaux case buy of the year. |
