Domaine Les Alexandrins was founded in 2009 by a serious Nothern Rhone trio; Guillaume Sorrel (son of Marc Sorrel of Domaine Sorrel in Hermitage), Alexandre Caso, a specialist in the terroirs of Northern Rhone, and the third partner Nicolas Jaboulet of the venerable house of Paul Jaboulet – Hermitage "La Chapelle" and Domaine de Thalbert in Crozes-Hermitage. The confluence of talents was most evident when visiting them last summer. The 2015 Crozes is from vines that are an average age of 70 years and grown on clay sand soils deposited by the Rhone. Climate here, as in St Joseph, is a mixture of Continental with some Mediterranean influences. The clay-sand soil adds a fatness to the gamey bacon fat attributes of great Syrah. The 2015 St Joseph is also from four hectares all located within the municipality of Tournon-sur-Rhone. Big difference here is the Syrah vines are average 90 years old and grown on weathered granite soils. Both represent excellent value from the great 2015 vintage.
