This is a big and powerful red with blackberry and black truffle character as well as lots of wood. Full body. Big style. Needs a year or two to soften and refine.

The 2014 Gran Malbec is a barrel selection that blends the best Malbec from the vintage from Valle de Uco, mostly Los Árboles (Don Antonio) and some from Gualtallary. The fermentation and élevage was similar to the rest of the wines, using different vessels and maturing the wine in French barriques for 12 to 16 months. In reality, there is more oak here, because they used more of the component that fermented in barrel and also used a higher percentage of new oak. The wine has a little more oak on the nose but also in the tannins and the texture of the mouthfeel, where the wine feels more influenced by the oak. 12,000 bottles were filled in October 2016.

Saturated medium ruby. Very dark aromas of blackberry, cassis, licorice, mint and violet. Dense, juicy and youthfully imploded, even a bit medicinal today, but with lovely intensity and sneaky sweetness to its dark berry, bitter chocolate, spice, mint and mineral flavors. Finishes with very firm but suave tannins and subtle rising length. From memory, this is both fresher and better balanced than the 2013 version, which showed everything from porty to herbal tones. Plenty of structure here to support a graceful evolution in bottle.
