The 2014 Catena Cabernet Sauvignon was slightly reduced, so decanting in advance is not a bad idea (in fact that could work for all the Catena range). This is a blend of multiple vineyards across the Mendoza province. It has a leafy character with ripe blackberries and some spicy oak. 2014 was a warm vintage, and they selected grapes from cooler zones. There is some 8% Cabernet Franc in the final blend, which also adds freshness and ripens earlier than Cabernet Sauvignon. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and good acidity. I like the palate better than the nose. So in 2014 they produced less, 190,000 bottles.

Shows good cut to the brambly flavors of boysenberry, red currant and plum. Green olive notes show midpalate, with a juicy finish that delivers accents of sandalwood and spice. Drink now through 2019. 18,000 cases imported.
