Declared “one of the most elegant Clos Apaltas” by James Suckling, here’s an exciting opportunity to acquire a limited release of the stunning 97 pt. 2013 Casa Lapostolle Clos Apalta, the legendary Chilean red blend offering fresh, lush aromatic fruit impeccably balanced by smooth, juicy tannins, pristinely aged for a decade and delivered ex-Chateau ready to enjoy at an equally stunning value price.

Powerful, intense, concentrated and breathtaking – these are the words critics use again and again to describe the iconic Carmenere-based Bordeaux style blend from Casa Lapostolle, the Colchagua Valley estate established by French Grand Marnier heiress Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet in 1994 and under the direction of seventh generation Charles-Henri de Bournet since 2013. Located near Santa Cruz in El Condor de Apalta, the original wall-surrounded vineyard or “clos” was planted with Carmenere and Cabernet Sauvignon between 1910 and 1920 in a horseshoe-shaped valley with decomposing granite slopes formed by the Coastal Cordillera, the vines sheltered from the intense afternoon sun while the cooling influence of the Tinguiririca River preserves the grapes’ freshness and acidity. Crafted by an elite team led by renowned French enologist Michel Rolland and technical director Jacques Begarie, the elegant and powerful 2013 Clos Apalta was fermented with native yeasts and aged in 100% new French oak for 28 months before being bottled without filtering or fining, described as “ripe and concentrated and ideally balanced” by the Wine Enthusiast’s Michael Schachner and exhibiting its signature aromatics of smokey, earthy spice with plush dark fruit and rippling layers of complexity.

Garnering consistent critical acclaim vintage over vintage including being the only South American wine ever to earn the coveted #1 spot on the Wine Spectator’s Top 100, critic James Suckling affirms, “There’s no doubt that Clos Apalta is one of the world’s greatest red wines,” this library release of the elegant 97 pt. 2013 Clos Apalta an exceptional opportunity to secure this iconic blend with ten years of impeccable aging and savor its rich complexity at a fraction of the price of its peers.

Fabulous dark berry, blueberry and fresh herb character. Full body, dense and layered with blackberry and chocolate. Hazelnut and dark fruit, too. Soft and pretty tannins with great intensity. A blend of 70% carmenere, 21% cabernet sauvignon, 7% merlot and 2% petit verdot. Drink or hold.
