Medium yellow. Very pure aromas of ripe peach, lime and flowers, with a mineral component and roasted botrytis tones. Penetrating and perfumed in the mouth, with terrific cut and energy to its mineral-driven stone and citrus fruit flavors. Conveys a strong impression of calcaire energy. Wonderfully balanced, deep, very long wine with terrific finishing grip and aromatic clarity.

The 2005 Chateau Nairac has a “fluffy” bouquet that is missing the detail of more recent vintages, although there are attractive scents of clear honey and wet wool, later hints of passion fruit and a faint whiff of brioche. The palate is where it really excels: well-balanced with crisp acidity. There is a spicy undertone that ties in with a linear, but precise, finish. This is a conservative Nairac without flair, and is drinking beautifully now, but I suspect it will repay extended cellaring. Drink now-2030. Tasted March 2014.

Lots of botrytis spice and clove honey, with hints of dried lemon. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with honey and cooked apple flavors. Spicy and long, with just a hint of vanilla. Very pretty and balanced. Best after 2013.
