At the northern end of the commune of Saint-Julien, opposite the vines of Chateau Latour across the boundary in Pauillac, an old stone wall encloses a 50-hectare piece of vineyard. This is the grand clos, the heart and nucleus of one of the best, and certainly one of the longest-living, of all the Saint-Julien properties - if not of the entire Medoc. Since the late 1950’s Chateau Leoville-las-Cases has consistently produced one of the best clarets in Bordeaux - perhaps of all wines the nearest in quality to the first growths.

Very ripe, with raisin and dried fruits on the nose. You can smell the sun-dried grapes. Full-bodied, delivering firm tannins and a very fresh palate. Long and flavorful, offering currant, berries and all sorts of dark fruits, but turns lightly earthy and floral. This is a thoroughly complex wine. Just starting to really open into the mature 20-year-old wine it is, but such a great life ahead of it. Muscular.--'89/'99 Bordeaux blind retrospective (2009)....

These bottles are in pristine condition as they have been stored in the cellars of the château throughout their existence. To that point each bottle will have a back label stating that "Chateau Leoville Las Cases has aged the wine in its Cellars for you since harvest until shipping in 2019." Additionally, the bottles have been recorked at the Chateau very recently. It also states that on the back label.
