Greetings!
May
marks B-21's 60th Anniversary and we are celebrating all month long!
Please stop by and celebrate with us!
Steve Rayman just returned from Italy where he caught up with Casanova
di Neri's Winemaker, Giacomo Neri. Steve had the opportunity to
taste the 2003 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino and said, "I’m
really excited this wine is finally available stateside." You can
see tasting notes from his trip on the front page. We will
have hundreds of new Italian wines arriving over the next year so expect
to see them prominently featured in future Wine Buyer's Guides. To
get a sneak peek at our newest Italy wines turn to Page 6.
California’s
Central Coast encompasses the most eclectic mix of wines California
offers. The cool
climates and passionate boutique winemakers allow Pinot Noir, Chardonnay
and Syrah to excel above the rest. If you seek out unique wines
made by pioneers, now is the time to check out the Central Coast!

We have more White Burgundy
wines that just came in! Allen Meadows of Burghound.com says, “For those who loved the 2002 vintage, and
judging from the emails that I have received over the ensuing years,
there were a lot of you, then you’ll find much to like in the 2006
vintage as well as the essential character of the wines is quite
similar. Unlike the botrytis-affected ‘05s, the ‘06s are generally
purer but softer and while the aromas can run to the exotic due to
the high-degree of ripeness, it’s rarely botrytis-based.”
See Page 7 for new White Burgundy arrivals!
Most of us
think of buying Bordeaux as an investment to drink later in life.
This is true for many wines, however, why wait? Don't you want
to drink Bordeaux today? There are many outstanding values
that are ready to drink with your dinner tonight! Check out
some of our favorite Bordeaux wines that we are drinking now!
(Page 8) Speaking of drinking Bordeaux today, check out
the highlights from our Bordeaux vs. Cabernet Grand Tasting in
April! (Page 9)
Priorat Wines
are "IN 'DA HOUSE"! That's right! They are here and they
are the Schistes! (no pun intended) In
all seriousness though, Priorat is now one of the most happening wine
regions in Spain. What makes it so popular? The secret of
Priorat is schistes (otherwise known as slate and locally llicorella).
In Priorat it is so prevalent that many vineyards appear to have
been planted in a bed of rubble. Slate beds are tough on growing
vines which must fight their way through this rock to find water and
nourishment. The flavors of a great Priorat not so surprisingly have
fresh flavors of mint and licorice (llicorella). Check out
these caliente Priorat wines on page 12!
