Firm in texture, this glows with a profusion of red berry and dusky spice flavors around a tight core, with spicy, cedary overtones. (66% merlot and 34% cabernet sauvignon) Medium red. Slightly high-toned aromas of redcurrant, plum, tobacco, mocha, coffee and menthol. Distinctly hard-edged and leathery on the palate, in need of a bit more texture and depth. Seems a bit hollow. With limited middle-palate flesh, the tannins come across as rather dry and tough. Interestingly, this has a relatively high pH of 3.8, whereas the other Cadence '04s are in the 3.65 to 3.7 range, suggesting that the acid levels fell before the skins reached full ripeness.
